Japan in January

In January Shane and I returned to one of our favourite places - Japan! It was our third time visiting The Land of the Rising Sun during winter, with the primary goal of shredding the world class Japow. Snowboards in tow, we unfortunately arrived the day before a two week dry spell hit most of the country. So while the snow gods didn’t smile on us this trip (except for our last, epic powder day), we still made the most of our vacation by exploring the North Island by foot and in our trusty rental car.

We spent a week in Asahikawa, which is the second largest city on the North Island, and then made our way for a week in Sapporo. The trip finished with three nights in the Shinjuku district of Tokyo. As always, Nihon didn’t disappoint. The cuisine is mind blowing, the warmth of the people is heartwarming, and the culture is a breathtaking tapestry of tradition and beauty.

I went on this trip with only my Canon R5 and a 50mm prime lens. And while I left it behind a lot of the time, I did bring it around the cities a few times when we were out walking about. Street photography is definitely not my strong suit, but it was fun to capture a few memories along the way.
